In 2022, K. Renee, author, founder, and CEO of K. Renee Publications, hosted the K.

Renee Experience in several states across the country. The outpouring of love and support in each

city is what led K. Renee to continue her passion in finding ways to highlight the Black

independent literary scene. Her dream of bringing authors, readers, and other supporters together

blossomed with every new idea.

K. Renee’s passion to celebrate the Black independent literary scene, is what led her to

creating The Literary Gem Awards. The first annual award ceremony was held on June 3, 2023,

in New Orleans, LA. The awards are to recognize and honor the resilient individuals in the

industry. There is a level of devotion an independent Black author must maintain to be successful

in the literary industry. The nominated authors have all shown an outstanding level of consistency,

grit, and toughness. They constantly apply pressure and excel in their craft. K. Renee, and the other

team members governing The Literary Gem Awards, are dedicated to acknowledging the strength

and creativity of each Author, Designer, Editor, Publisher, Blogger, and Book Club nominated.

In years to come, K. Renee hopes The Literary Gem awards continues to grow and

continue to be a platform for Black creatives. K. Renee truly believes that this is only the beginning

of the amazing things to highlight the Black independent literary scene.
